WELCOME TO OUR VIRTUAL OPEN DAY FOR THE CASTLE SCHOOL
During these difficult times we have had to amend our normal Open Day format but we hope that all the information contained in this website will help you get a good understanding of what we stand for and what we offer at The Castle School.
Message from Joe Docherty, Headteacher
I am delighted to welcome you to our school. Choosing a secondary school is a very big decision and I hope that our website and this webpage helps you to learn more about us.
We are a truly comprehensive school that is proud to be an integral part of our local community. We are very lucky to have so many talented, hard-working teachers and support workers; their expertise, enthusiasm and care for young people is impressive.
One of the advantages of a very large school is that we are able to offer a very wide variation of subjects and extra-curricular opportunities. We are also able to offer a broad curriculum within our large Sixth Form, where students achieve results significantly above national averages, and which acts as the post-16 provision for both Castle and Marlwood schools.
We care about each individual student and have the highest ambitions and expectations for them. I distil this down to a very simple message for all students – “Work Hard, be Kind, be Respectful”. I have been delighted to see our new Year 7 students already demonstrating this in their first weeks with us. I look forward to seeing them grow and develop over the next seven years, and I hope they will also enjoy the academic success, the extra-curricular opportunities and the development of personal skills that has been characteristic of this school for so many years.
For more information please do explore all of our website, which acts as our prospectus and aims to provide lots of detail about the school. If you can’t find an answer there please contact us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’d be delighted to answer your questions.
Please email questions to email@example.com
For all questions received by 2nd October, we plan to collate all the questions together and post responses to them here in a question and answer format on Monday 5th October 2020.

Tour of School;
In all previous years, we have been delighted to welcome prospective parents and students from Year 6 for tours of the school. We normally run daily tours for 6 weeks during the early Autumn, and usually get over 1,000 visitors to our Open Evening. Unfortunately, given the current circumstances, we are not able to offer this service - trying to keep to our revised movement patterns to reduce students mixing within a full school, while also trying to accomodate so many visitors who would need to be kept suitably distanced from each other, would be a step too far. And we don't think it would be fair to offer visits only to a minority of those who would want them.
Please watch our film, read our website, and e-mail any questions you need answering. If you need to speak to someone about an individual question you have, please let us know.
Thank you for your understanding.
